As we at CSG look forward to the July 12th Children’s Seminar, entitled The Stones’ True Story, developed and presented by Brian and Carla Estell, I was reminded of the discerning curiosity of young minds. Two years ago in October I drove to New England to present a Creation Seminar to our eldest son’s and daughter-in-law’s Rhode Island and Massachusetts regional Home School support group. Noah’s Flood and the Ark held the children’s greatest interest, including our three granddaughters, Joy, Simplicity (Simmie) and Gloria, then ages 10, 8 and 7, respectively. The girls were especially taken with “. . . the fountains of the great deep . . .” (Genesis 7:11) and had fun chanting these rhythmic words! Since then, of course, their studies have expanded so that I recently received two emails which follow without editing and with my replies.
Dear Grandpa,
How are you? I am doing fine. Have you been doing anything interesting lately? I have been reading through some of the old CREATION and ANSWERS issues. They are interesting to read over again and remember somemore truths about our Creator. We are going to a baby shower in April. Grandpa, I have a question for you. What to evolutionists believe caused a ‘Big Bang’?
Love, Simmie
Hi again, Simmie!
Here, as I promised, is my answer to your very good question. It depends on whether the evolutionist is theistic or atheistic. The Greek word for “God” is Theos, and Greek for “no” or “without” is simply the letter a; hence the adjective, “theistic,” describes someone who believes in God, and the adjective, “atheistic,” describes someone who believes there is no God.
The theistic evolutionist believes that God (or some, nameless Intelligent Designer) caused the “Big Bang”. That, at least, makes some sense scientifically, but it does not agree with the Bible where God tells us how He created light and the earth out of a watery chaos before He created the heavenly bodies without a “Big Bang.” Those who believe in the “Big Bang” say the heavenly bodies were formed before the earth. No, creation of the universe was not with a “Big Bang”; but if you look up II Peter 3:10-13, you will read about a “Big Bang” in the future from which God will create new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness!
The atheistic evolutionist believes the “Big Bang” was spontaneous, that is, it just happened without a cause. That doesn’t make any scientific sense, does it? Have you ever seen something created without a cause? It is contrary to the most basic law of science, known as The First Law of Thermodynamics, which states that “Matter or Energy Can Not Naturally Be Created or Destroyed.”
Now, I know that’s a lot of information for you to chew over, Simmie, but I also know, from the very thoughtfulness of your question, that you will eventually be able to digest it all. Grandma agrees. We love you very much!
May God bless you and your whole family with a joyous Resurrection Day!
Love, Grandpa
P.S. How was your violin recital?
Dear Grandpa,
Thank you for the three trees! It was very interesting.
I have been reading Genisis and I have A question to ask you. The question is: how did Noah get the (birds espeicilly) animals on the ark because when adam and eve sinned that’s when animals became afraid of people and this was way after that. And birds would fly away from Noah. So that’s the question I wanted to ask you. I hope your doing well! please write me back.
Love, Gloria
Hi Gloria!
How nice to receive an email from you last week! Grandma and I are sorry we couldn’t answer it right away, but today we’re free to do so.
Your question is an excellent one! We are impressed with your clear, analytical thinking. The answer to your question is twofold.
First, God did not direct Noah to go out and catch the birds and animals. He just told Noah to bring them into the ark (Genesis 6:19). Therefore, it is safe to assume that God brought them to Noah to bring into the ark. So, since God, who created them, influenced them to come to Noah, He also would have influenced them not to be afraid of him.
Second, God did not ordain that wild birds and animals were to fear man until Genesis 9:2 where He told Noah: “And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.”
The next verse is also God’s first instruction to Noah that man would eat meat thereafter. Although domestic animals were killed as sacrifices for sin and for clothing after the Fall (Genesis 3:21 and 4:4), they were not necessarily eaten, and wild animals did not have to be hunted for food before the flood, as evolutionists would have us believe. Therefore, they would naturally not be fearful of man until that was ordained after the flood. (Domestic birds and animals are not fearful of man even now; so “every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air” in Genesis 9:2 must refer only to wild birds and animals.)
Yes, thank you, Grandma and I are doing well and are enjoying the spring that has suddenly come to Greenville. We have yellow daffodils and purple periwinkle near our house and purple and white violets out in the lawn. We hope your and your sister’s little fishes are coming along “swimmingly” which means “very well.”
God bless you, your sisters and your Mommy and Daddy!
Grandma and I love you,
Grandpa
Such youngsters need to be so well grounded in Creation that they will be able to stand sure in the face of the falsehoods with which they will be confronted as they mature in our failing, humanistic educational system, be it public, private or, yes, even biblically compromising evangelical. Their faith must be firmly undergirded with the certainty that the Bible is inerrant, infallible and authoritative so that they can “. . . be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh [them] a reason of the hope that is in [them] with meekness and fear: . . .” (I Peter 3:15) To educate, ground and equip for the sake of the Gospel are just some of the purposes of the CSG. It is encouraging to see the beneficial impact being made by the Home School Movement where, for the most part, young minds are taught to think rather than parrot humanistic responses. The morning presentation by Brian and Carla Estell Thursday, July 12th, about the flood, dinosaurs, fossils, etc., will certainly equip our children to answer the claims of evolutionists. Seeing and handling some of the artifacts from their portable museum of fossils, bones and petrified wood will both excite us and lend reality to the information.
That Thursday evening we will be hosting George Farris, who will present a video on the newly opened AIG Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, just outside Cincinnati. This presentation should be enjoyable to young and old alike. Won’t you join us? You will be built up in the Faith and may have some of your questions answered.
